Go Max Go’s Candy Bars

Food Fight! package

I was pretty excited this last Sunday when I saw a bulletin posted on myspace by Portland Oregon based grocery store Food Fight. The title of the bulletin was “Best Vegan Candy Bars Eva”. I shot right over to their online store to see what the buzz was about. Food Fight is one of my most favorite grocery stores and they know their vegan junk food; so I was excited to see what product they were featuring. Food Fight was pushing recently released Go Max Go brand vegan candy bars. What makes Go Max Go’s candy bars special is that they mimic popular candy bars but without all the crap ingredients that the popular bars use (no hydrogenated oils, trans fats, or artificial ingredients). There were four different candy bars released in early May; the Buccaneer (Three Musketeers), the Twilight (Milky Way), the Mahalo (Almond Joy), the Jokerz (Snickers).

Of course I quickly placed an order for all four types of Go Max Go’s candy bars (they were $2.25 for a 2oz candy bar); I also ordered some snacks for an upcoming vacation (I can’t go on vacation without a stash of snacks). I did some online research about the candy bars and apparently I am out of the vegan junk food loop! These bars have been hyped up on a bunch of different blogs since early this year; I guess I should be paying more attention! It might have been for the best though because the anticipation of the release of these bars might have killed me :)

My order from Food Fight’s online store came in three business days and I immediately tore open the package as soon as it hit my doorstep. The bars were melted alittle bit (the weather was in the high 70’s) but the bars hardened up with a quick trip to my freezer. Here is what I thought of the candy bars:

Go Max Go Buccaneer candy bar
Buccaneer: Chocolatey nougat with a rice-milk chocolate coating (similar to a 3 Musketeers candy bar). The rice milk chocolate that coated the candy bar (it was the coating for all of the candy bars) was nice and light (opposed to most vegan chocolate bars that use dark chocolate). The nougat was sweet but not too sweet. It was a yummy candy bar but I liked the Twilight better than this bar since the Twilight had caramel in it.

Go Max Go Twilight candy bar
Twilight: Caramel, chocolate Nougat with a rice-milk chocolate coating (similar to a Milky Way candy bar). Yum, yum, yum! The caramel was so similar to a dairy based caramel that it was freaky; but in a good way! I can imagine chopping up this candy bar and using it as a topping for a chocolate cake.

Go Max Go Mahalo candy bar
Mahalo: Coconut and almonds with a rice-milk chocolate coating (similar to an Almond Joy candy bar). My second favorite of the bunch! I’m a big fan of coconut and chocolate candy bars and this was a great candy bar.

Go Max Go Jokerz candy bar
Jokerz: Caramel, peanuts & nougat with a rice-milk chocolate coating (similar to a Snickers bar). This was my favorite of the bunch, the caramel mixed with the peanuts and nougat was a perfect mix!

    Hi Kristen,

Thanks for posting a comment, I *love* Go Max Go candy bars! I know that on their website they have locations of where you can buy their products (I hate having to order chocolate through the mail during summer). I know that my local co-op now carries them.

BTW, I have been a follower of sugar-skull.com for awhile but I have always been too shy to post a comment ;)
